A First Plea for Direct Democracy

PRAGUE
DIRECT DEMOCRACY
CONFERENCE - 2005

September 16-18

Technology forces changes upon us at ever-faster rates, information inundates us from an infinite variety of sources, and Earth's human populations explode uncontrollably.
Yet, we use these techologies for too many destructive purposes. We still live in unfriendly, inefficient, hierarchical societies, and we are still a primitvely developed, illiterate, unthinking species. As a consequence, we produce too much violence, and too many wars, Our masses suffer continual starvation and unjust justice. And our uncaring, selfish activiities are rapidly destroying the health of this spinning globe we call "home."
It is the consensus of intelligent, thinking people that solutions to these problems may be found by changing our competitive, hierarchical societies to cooperative, participatory societies; from governments controlled by the few, to governments in which the whole population of a society, whether, neighborhood, town, city, state, or nation determines the values and makes the laws affecting their lives. And so, this conference.
