A Plea for Direct Democracy

MISSION STATEMENT

We are a group of Americans dedicated to reason and logic, which we accept as the natural, common sense language of the human brain. We also believe that if there is a Creator, than he, she, or it has given us this remarkable brain as our major means of survival; the armor with which to meet the challenges of life.

It is therefore, impossible for us to accept the improbable, implausable, illogical supernaturalism and unproven fantasies with which organized religions program their followers. In this respect we are similar to all humanist, atheist, agnostic, skeptic, and freethinker organizations.

In addition, however, and unlike other humanist groups, we believe that merely advocating the separation of church and state, and merely drawing attention to the oppressive policies of organized religion isn't going to change the dangerous direction leaders of this country take us.

We believe that the "reasoning power" of which we are so proud should be focused upon the political situation, for it is here only that crucial changes can be initiated. We also believe that if existing political parties can not provide satisfactory solutions to the many problems of the nation, then we should logically initiate a political party offering a platform that does hold the potential to solve them.

Our dedication to such change is rooted in the historical knowledge that organized religion has been, and remains, the most suppressive force on planet Earth; that the men at the highest levels of religious hierarchicies have lusted for wealth, have been as indifferent to the condition of ordinary citizens, have been as brutal, have tortured and murdered innocent people no less than have the men of secular hierarches.

Our dedication is also rooted in the hisorical knowledge that the Constitution of the United States was written by privileged men to protect their wealth and wealth-making opportunites from the farmers and crafts people of the thirteen colonies; that the powers derived from this document have allowed privileged individuals and families to abuse and repress America's common, working citizens for more than 200 years with chains of law and social institutions they have created to protect their wealth.

This dedication is nurtured by hope that such a change as we recommend will produce a more equitable social environment for all citizens, while protecting and preserving the country and the planet for our children and our children's children.

The history of our species reveals the greatest enemy of all commoners throughout planet Earth has not been people from other regions, nor people of other skin colors or religions. The greatest repression against common, laboring citizens of any country has always been exerted by their own ruling elite; the wealthy, powerful citizens of their own country. This is an undeniable truth of history.

So, too, is it true that the weapons most used to repress freedom and truth has always been the institutions of government and organized religion. This, too, is an undeniable historical truth.

Active Humanists are well aware of these truths. It's why we have chosen to become Active Humanists.

The philosophy of Active Humanism is based upon the premise that the changes in society common Americans seek we commoners must produce, and we must produce them quickly, for the current residents of the White House are treacherously assaulting our freedoms.

It is the mission of the Active Humanists of America to unite Americans who fight for black rights, female rights, environmental rights, human rights, social rights, labor rights, family rights, and all other human rights, by convincing them that they fight the same enemy, but with divided forces and on different fields of battle. We must fuse these Americans into one politically powerful force and remove control of government from the selfish, destructive forces that control it.
